The Universal Languages Company performing the end of "Misunderstood"

Creation

As a director and choreographer, the biggest joy in Cade's eyes is when someone who never saw themselves in the theatre realizes that the stage is for them. Whether he's creating dance pieces comprised of college athletes or designing lights to invite audiences into a world where they feel truly seen, he has always sought to invite fresh perspectives and voices into the artistic space.

Cade works to achieve this through creating original works that are explicitly for the same outsiders to the theatre that he once was as well as approaching existing pieces through the directorial practice of Point of View to tap into the emotional center of plays and musicals that are reflective of universal human experiences and emotions. It is with this grounding of the emotional center that he can make bold choices through constant physical action and high-stakes situations that keep his work fresh and alive at all times.

It is also incredibly important to Cade that he create a space where these bold choices are well received and where performers feel safe and free to express themselves in their own creative journeys. This is why Cade has received plaudits from collaborators for his communication, kindness, and generosity. He takes pride in possessing the qualities of an "actor's director" while retaining a strong artistic vision that his collaborators can buy into.

“A stage space has two rules: (1) Anything can happen and (2) Something must happen.”
Peter Brook, Empty Space
